Sometimes it’s just impossible to pay the IRS (or a state authority) the full amount of taxes due by the deadline.  Fortunately, the IRS (and most states) will accept installment payments.

 

The method of establishing an installment agreement with the IRS is to file a Form 9465-Installment Agreement Request.

 

Because of our experience in helping taxpayers establish Installment Agreements with the IRS, we have never had an Installment Agreement Request rejected by the IRS.
