Most (but not all) people in the U.S. with income are required by federal law to file an individual income tax return annually.  Filing requirements are fairly complex and vary based on factors such as age, marital status, types of income, etc.

 

Federal income tax laws are complicated by congress’ attempts to affect public policy through the Internal Revenue Code.  Examples of this use of the Code to affect public policy would include such “features” as:
