With the IRS being short on staff, we don’t see very many full-blown field audits anymore.  However, the IRS is becoming very sophisticated and adept at using computers to identify possible issues with a given tax return.

 

Accordingly, it is not uncommon for a taxpayer to receive a letter from the IRS requesting additional information or documents.
